A free guide for early career primary teachers, from a teacher with ten years in NSW classrooms.
Teach your expectations like a maths lesson (I do, we do, you do), plus a simple attention signal you can start using this week.
Start at the end with backwards mapping, and spend less time planning.
Set your hours, say no without the guilt, and build your people so you stay long enough to enjoy this job
I’m a primary teacher in NSW with ten years in the classroom, and I’ve coached more than fifteen early career and preservice teachers.
I wrote this guide because I kept seeing the same thing. Good teachers, working incredibly hard, who just hadn’t been handed the systems. This is what I wish someone had handed me.
Teaching 30 little minds is one of the most rewarding things you’ll ever do, and it’s a lot easier when you’re not figuring it out alone.
That’s why I started Waypoint Teacher Development, where I coach early career teachers in their own classrooms, in the hope that more of them get to feel that, and stay long enough to enjoy it.
